jena-headshot-150I learned to knit in the fall of 1981, my first semester in college. I started with Barbara Walker’s Learn-To-Knit-Afghan Book.I never made the afghan, but I made 16 squares into two pillows and used the patterns for many, many hat designs. From that book I learned almost everything I need to know about knitting. Today there are so many books, designers, yarn sources, etc, that knitting has become confusing! I like things simple and boiled down to the necessities. From there creativity can soar! I hope to provide a website that helps you navigate all the choices and encourages your love for the art of knitting.

They may seem expensive, but you'll end up spending this much on individual needles that will sit in your drawer for years after you finally decide to buy this set. :) I've tried other brands over the years, and this really is my favorite.

    These are my favorite knitting books. If you click on the book covers, it will take you to Amazon.com for used book prices. Try checking them out at the library too. This first book has a lot of knitting stitches and patterns that can be applied to hats or scarves or place mats, etc. I love browsing through this book and trying new things. The above is spiral bound so it lays open, leaving your hands free to knit as you follow instructions. It's very clear and concise. I like that. Vogue Knitting This is a large, easy to understand encyclopedia of knitting. This book teaches you knitting techniques as you make different squares. The squares can then be joined to make an afghan. I learned to knit with this book and have adapted the squares into pillow and hat designs. Everything you need to know about yarn and all the choices out there!
